About us

A veteran-owned security team, built for smaller businesses.

Testudo Defense Group brings operational security experience to the organizations that need it most — small and mid-sized businesses without a security team of their own.

Who we are

Testudo Defense Group is a veteran-owned cybersecurity consultancy based in Charleston, South Carolina, working with clients across the United States. Our consultants bring more than a decade of hands-on experience defending real networks — not just advising on them.

That experience spans incident response, cyber threat intelligence, digital forensics, national and information security, and offensive security. It means when we tell you a risk matters, it’s because we’ve seen what happens when it isn’t addressed.

Where the name comes from

The Roman testudo — the tortoise-shell formation — was built from overlapping shields held by a disciplined unit. Layered, coordinated, and hard to break. That’s the goal for every business we work with.

How we work

  • Authorization first. Nothing is tested, scanned, or simulated without your signed go-ahead.
  • Bounded engagements. Clear scope, clear finish, clear deliverable — no open-ended retainers.
  • Plain language. Reports written for owners and managers, with technical depth available underneath.
  • Right-sized. We start with the essentials that stop most real-world attacks, not the longest possible list.

Our expertise

The disciplines our consultants draw on across every engagement.

Incident response

Experience running real incidents end to end — which is what makes our tabletop exercises and readiness advice realistic rather than theoretical.

Cyber threat intelligence

Tracking the actors and techniques actually being used against specific industries, and translating that into priorities a business can act on.

Digital forensics

Deep familiarity with how intrusions unfold and what they leave behind — the detail that separates useful findings from generic checklists.

National & information security

Background working in environments with rigorous security requirements, applied at a scale that fits a smaller business.

Offensive security

Understanding how attackers think and operate, used strictly within authorized, agreed boundaries to test defenses safely.

Security operations

Years in security operations centers monitoring, triaging, and responding — the day-to-day reality of defending a network.
